School supplies contribution reminder

In case you this slipped your mind, I wanted to re-send my 7-31 post to ensure we have the classroom supplies we need.
I will also send a newsletter out with "all the things" in the next week or so, FYI.

Hello families,

I hope you are enjoying this beautiful summer!

In the current fiscal environment, Eugene School District is no longer purchasing school supplies for families. To save you from some errands AND to ensure equitable access to quality supplies, we are shifting to a new plan in which we will collect contributions from families at the beginning of the school year to bulk-order supplies.

We would like every child to show up in September with the following:

One school backpack, labeled with the child's first and last name.
Optional: one water bottle, labeled with the child's first and last name. Note that each classroom has a drinking fountain, so this is not required.
Optional: lunch box, labeled with the child's first and last name. Note that school breakfast and school lunch are still free, so this is only required if your child will be bringing a lunch from home.

For the rest of the necessary school supplies, I am asking for a contribution of $40 per child. This money will be earmarked solely for student supplies for the classroom and will be utilized throughout the year. If you aren't able to give that much, please adjust down so you can still pay your bills. If you are able to give more than $40 per child, it will help cover costs for families who are in a tough spot right now.

Whatever you are able to contribute is greatly appreciated by our learning community!

This is going to be a great school year! In the meantime, enjoy the next month of summer.

8/27: Parent Council Planning session at Edison playground, 5:30 - 7:00. Children are welcome!

9/4: 1st - 5th grade families learn who their children's classroom teachers are via email
9/8:

First day of school for KG students, 8:30 - 1:45 early release
Meet Your Teacher event, 4:00 - 5:00 (typically for 1st - 5th grade families, as KG class lists aren't yet determined... and the KG students will likely be quite tired from day 1)

9/9:

First day of school for 1st - 5th graders
All KG students attend again, as well
8:30 - 1:45 early release Wednesday

9/10:

Half of KG students attend (last names beginning with letters A - L)
All 1st - 5th graders attend
Regular hours: 8:30 - 3:00

9/11:

Half of KG students attend (last names beginning with letters M - Z)
All 1st - 5th graders attend
Regular hours: 8:30 - 3:00

9/14: Regular hours: 8:30 - 3:00 for all students
9/15: Regular hours: 8:30 - 3:00 for all students
9/16:

Regular Wednesday hours: 8:30 - 1:45 for all students
Parent Council Meeting & STEAM Night: 5:30 - 7:30 (kids attend STEAM activities; adults plan for Edison's 100th Birthday Party and fall Jog-a-thon)

9/17 & 9/18:

Regular hours for 1st - 5th graders
No school for KG students: Parent/Teacher conversations by appointment

10/8: Edison's 100th Birthday Party!!! 5:00 - 7:00 pm (community event w/ food trucks, games, building tours, etc.)
10/9: No School (Teacher planning & professional development)
10/21: Edison Jog-a-thon, 9:00 - 11:00 am
